Aging in place, done properly

Keep the people you love safe, comfortable, independent, and at home.

Hemgaard is the first credentialed home safety check-up for aging in place in Turkey. We assess the home — and the life lived inside it — then hand you a clear, prioritized plan, reviewed by a specialist panel. We call it the home check-up.

Our methodology is grounded in two programmes recognised in the United States: Age Safe® America’s Certified Senior Home Safety Specialist (SHSS) and the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). In this approach, the home is assessed for risk, specialist judgment is brought in, and practical findings are prioritised.

Your home's check-up

Most homes were never designed for aging bodies. We point out what will increase the level of comfort and safety.

Bathroom tiles with too little friction. A light switch across a dark room. A threshold that becomes a trip hazard at 2 a.m. Shelves out of reach. These risks are quiet — until they aren't.

The check-up is the heart of what we do. Our specialist team assesses every room and every transition the resident uses daily, then go further: we sit with the resident and their family to understand how they actually live — what they cook, how they move at night, who visits, what they love and want to keep doing. That depth is the point.

Why it matters

adults over 65 fall each year — the single leading cause of lost independence and premature institutionalization.

the minimum yearly cost of a full-time private nurse. Every year we delay that need is money — and dignity — returned to the family.

EXPERT NOTE

Sometimes the most effective recommendation isn't a product. It's a change of room.

Our experts listen to the daily routine as well as look at the home. Where it helps, they suggest rethinking how rooms are used, where things live, or how care is arranged.

Beyond the check-up

The check-up stands on its own. When you want the work done, we can manage all of it.

A walk-in shower with grab bars and a fold-down seat — designed, not clinical

Retrofit — optional

If you choose to act on the plan, we manage the whole retrofit through a vetted network of craftspeople — tiling, carpentry, bathroom conversion, lighting. You have one point of contact from first visit to final walk-through. The homes we work on don't look adapted or clinical. They look designed.

A hallway with motion-sensor lighting, low night lights, and a cane within reach

Smart home — optional

We recommend smart home devices and, if you wish, install them — fall detection, an emergency button, a video doorbell with in-home screen, automated lighting.

Questions

The things families ask us first.

What is Hemgaard?

Hemgaard is a home safety check-up team for aging in place. Our core product is the check-up: a specialist assessment of a private home — and the life lived in it — reviewed by a specialist panel. For families who want the retrofit or smart-home installations done, we also manage it end to end.

Who is the check-up for?

Most often, adult children who want this check-up to keep a parent safe, independent, and at home — without waiting for a fall to force a decision. It's equally for older adults who want to assess and adapt their own home in advance.

What exactly happens during the check-up?

First, we hold a short pre-consultation to understand the need; once we've decided together that the check-up is the right step, the home visit is scheduled. On the agreed day and time, our dedicated team of two experts visits the home. After a brief orientation, they hold a comprehensive Q&A interview with the resident and survey and scan the home room by room (60 min). After the visit, follow-up interviews with family and any caretakers can be held online for additional questions (15 min). Our specialist panel — aging-in-place specialist, physiotherapist, architect — reviews the findings and assesses both the current picture and what's likely to be needed in the near term. All interviews are confidential and interview notes are not shared.

How long does the check-up take?

The visit is efficient; the rigor is in what follows. On site we spend about 60 minutes on the interview, survey, and scan. Where needed, after the visit we conduct roughly 15 minutes of follow-up interviews online with family and caretakers.

We then build the artifacts, review them with our design team and specialist panel, and deliver your Check-up Report within 7 days of the visit. Finally, we schedule a 60-minute session to walk you through the findings.

How is this different from an app that reads photos of my home?

Assessing a home together with the life lived in it is specialist work. An AI that reads a few uploaded photos or a walkthrough video only sees surfaces. We assess the home, the resident's life, and how they actually move through the space in depth — through on-site observation, a structured interview protocol, and a specialist panel. That depth gives us a different way of seeing.

Is my information private? What happens to the photos and video?

Yes — this is a private home, and we treat it that way. Any photos, images, or video of the home are strictly confidential and used solely to produce and deliver your report. We do not share, sell, or publish them, and access is limited to the people working on your project and the family members you authorize.

Check-up interview recordings and internal notes stay internal and are never posted to your portal.

If I want renovation work, do you do it?

If you want us to. The check-up is complete on its own — you own the report and its plan whether or not you do any work with us. When you do choose to act, we can manage the entire retrofit through a vetted network of craftspeople. We offer design and installation services for smart home and/or retrofit work.

Do you install smart home technology? Do you monitor the home?

We recommend and install smart home devices — fall detection, an emergency button, a video doorbell with in-home screen, automated lighting — as a one-time part of the retrofit. We do not operate a monitoring service or sell a subscription. Once installed, the devices belong to the family, and any live monitoring runs through the device makers' own apps.

Which cities do you serve?

Istanbul, for now. On-site check-ups in other cities can be arranged when travel is covered. Expansion to Ankara and Copenhagen will follow.

How do I get started?

Message us on WhatsApp at 0 535 875 11 70. We'll talk through your situation and the home's likely profile, and schedule the check-up. First available slots in Istanbul are typically two to three weeks out.
